Cultures of Atharon

Officially considered the oldest nation of the world, the Draconians have the longest recorded history. Their culture in particular praises the fighters as the absolute ideals, and with good reason since the most exalted fighters are the ones who put their lives on the line more often than everyone else combined. The Draconian culture is also characterized by a strict code of honor that obliges the entire nation to act accordingly. Honor is the most important trait and fully upholding it is the absolute priority for anyone who considers himself a true Draconian. However, defining the terms of honor by Draconian standards is a completely different subject. According to true Draconians, determination to fight for one's goals the honorable way is the most exalted virtue. The Draconian rule is the rule of the strongest, the fittest, and the most honorable. Unfortunately this also means that everyone who isn't capable to uphold these virtues due to old age, illness or any other reason is considered irrelevant.

Kaledonians are a much younger nation than the Draconians and share many of their traits due to common ancestry. They share the Draconians affinity for warfare, but view it from a completely opposite standpoint. The Kaledonians strongly believe in the freedom of choice, or more to the point: they strongly believe any means are justified as long as they are effective. This means the Kaledonians have no strict codes of honor to follow and they act according to the rules they make for themselves in order to pursue their goals as effectively as possible. Unfortunately, this mentality is the very reason why Kaledonia has always been the most chaotic continent of them all, and the very reason why even the almighty Kingdom of Kaledonia wasn't able to establish control over the entire continent in it's absolute peak. According to the Kaledonians, resourcefulness and cunning are the most exalted virtues.

Rheans are a completely different breed than their eternal enemies, they are a tranquil nation that tends to keep to itself and wages war only when forced into it. They also uphold the fighters in the highest regards, but while the Draconians and the Kaledonians respect their fighters for their might and glory, the Rheans respect their fighters as their protectors. Thanks to the calm nature of it's inhabitants, the continent has been united ever since their first Kingdom came into existence and it's the only continent fully occupied by a single country. Rheans cherish their heritage more than anything, according to that fact women are considered more important than men, since they bring new life into the world and, with it, prolong their heritage. (Make no mistake, they might seem a very calm nation, but when forced to fight they show absolutely no restraint or mercy, both towards their enemies and themselves. According to them, respecting one's heritage is the most exalted virtue, and when it comes to respecting and protecting their own, they are willing to die for it without question.)

Macaterrans are often compared to the Rheans, and with good reason since the Macaterran nation was initially conceived by the Rhean colonists in the second half of the 5th century. The only difference between the two is the fact that Macaterrans are much more open to outside influence and therefore adopted BASIC as their official language. Macaterrans prioritize knowledge above everything else, especially knowledge in warfare, and that effectively makes them the ultimate strategists. Of all the nations of the world, the Macaterrans are the most forward-thinking, always seeking new ways to improve their knowledge and their own little world. According to them, the desire to prosper is the most exalted virtue.

Last but certainly not least, the Imperials represent the newest nation in the known world. Just like the countries of the colonial world united into a single Empire under Silvers' rule, the abundance of nations held within them also united into one. Considering the Rheans were their very first and most influential ally, the Imperials developed a strong sense of tranquility, preffering to resolve their issues diplomatically rather than violently. Still, when it comes to violence and warfare, they are the undisputed champions of the battlefield due to several reasons, Guardians being just the first one. Imperials favor righteousness and justice above all other virtues, therefore honesty is the trait they cherish the most, for better or for worse.
